Out of the Box Physiotherapy provides a fresh approach to physiotherapy and healthcare that focuses on providing effective measurable treatment, honest and evidence-based advice and appropriate exercise prescription

The Clinic

Out of the Box Physiotherapy was born following the acquisition of Advantage Healthcare and Physiotherapy’s Birkdale practice in 2015.

In 2018, our clinic underwent major renovation to give us the spacious, modern and fully equipped clinic that we have today.

Our Approach

Our treatment approach is hands-on and exercise based care because this is what the evidence within our profession tell us works. This is backed by the fact that we have helped 1000’s of people get back to living the life that they love.

We focus as much on the education and empowerment of our patients as we do simply treating them. This might make us a little different to other physiotherapy clinics but we know this is what is needed to help our clients get the long term results that they deserve. Knowledge is power when managing injuries and we are happy to pass on our knowledge to our patients so that they can remain active in a safe way and build stronger, healthier bodies.

Our team of highly qualified and experienced health professionals are here to help
Chris Purcell

With over 16 years working exclusively in private practice physiotherapy, Chris brings a wealth of experience to his role as leader of the clinical team at Out of the Box Physiotherapy. Chris holds level 1 and level 2 sports physiotherapy qualifications and has worked in a variety of sporting settings including Rugby League, Rugby Union, Hockey, Swimming and Gymnastics.

Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Chris completed a Bachelor of Human Movement Studies (Exercise Physiology) which provides him with excellent exercise prescription skills and is a key reason why the clinic has its very own onsite gym.

Away from physiotherapy, Chris is currently completing his MBA through the QUT graduate school of business and is enjoying developing his leadership and management skills. During his career, Chris has been a clinical educator for students from both Griffith University and The University of Queensland and really enjoys helping his team become the best clinicians they can be.

Katie Massey

Katie has been with Out of the Box Physiotherapy for more than 6 years, having first started during her studies working on our front desk. She then transitioned into our clinical team and works as a key member of our physiotherapy team. Katie heads up both our Physio Strong Bones and Physio Strong Seniors programs. So far in her career, Katie has completed her Level 1 Sports Physiotherapy qualification along with Level 1 Pelvic Health Physiotherapy training and these are areas that she is going to continue to develop further.

Katie has worked with both AFL and AFLW teams and is also part of our team that provides physiotherapy services to Villanova College Rugby.

Katie is a keen runner and latin dancer and despite her busy life, still manages to find time to volunteer as a team leader for Radio Lollipop at the QLD Children's Hospital.

Hannah Fannin

Hannah is a physiotherapist with a strong interest in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Hannah completed a degree in exercise and nutrition sciences which gives her a good grounding in exercise prescription and the important role this plays in the rehabilitation journey. Hannah’s passion for physiotherapy came after rehabilitation from several injuries herself.

Hannah has also worked in the AFLW and herself is a keen soccer and cricket player.

A local Redlands girl having attended Redlands College, Hannah is excited to be working in our local community.

Ross Ashcroft
Remedial Massage Therapist

Ross is an experienced diploma qualified remedial massage therapist. Ross is also a level strength and conditioning coach accredited with ASCA and he continues to pursue further study in the area of strength, conditioning and rehabilitation. His interests and skill set align well with our physiotherapy team. Ross’s background means he adds a lot more value to his clients care than just massage, with lots of self-management and exercise based strategies provided to his clients.

Ross has worked across elite and semi-elite sporting settings, including with Crossfit athletes, Olympic level athletes and QLD Cup rugby League athletes.
